Step 1: Clean the cover
If there are any solids or liquids on the top of the cover, remove it all completely. When you go to take it off, these things will fall into the water, so be sure to clean it all off first. Utilizing a skimmer or submersible pump can make this process a lot easier.
Step 2: Take off the cover
This step generally requires the assistance of another person. It is ok if some debris falls into the water below, but try to avoid it if possible. Hose down the cover with fresh water before folding and putting away. Cleaning this on a sunny day works best, so it is afforded an opportunity to dry completely before it is placed in storage. Adding talcum powder to the dry surface helps to prevent mold and mildew.
Step 3: Add more water
Use your garden hose to add more water back in. Over the long winter season water has evaporated, now is the best time to fill it back up. A good indicator would be to raise the level to the middle of the skimmer opening.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you did not winterize, please skip to step 8.
Step 4 : Check connections
Make sure that all of the components that were disconnected when you closed it down are now reconnected entirely. This generally included things like the heater and filter. This also includes removing plugs that you placed during the winterization process and replacing them with their normal components. (Do NOT remove the plugs and skimmer lines until after you have removed the antifreeze)
Step 5: Discharge antifreeze
Carefully remove any antifreeze that has been used to protect your plumbing from freezing. Discharge it as a waste product, you cannot re-use it.
Step 6: Remove additional plugs
Once the antifreeze has been completely drained, you may remove the plugs from the skimmer and return lines.
Step 7: Prime and run equipment
Turn on and circulate water and prime your filter and additional equipment. Be sure to bleed the air from you air relief valve on the filter, if you have one. Makes sure that everything turns on and the water begins to circulate.
Step 8: Test the water
Let the water run and circulate through the filter for 3-4 hours and then test it. Be sure to utilize a current testing kit and evaluate the PH, total alkalinity and chlorine levels. Make adjustments to regulate these numbers, starting with the total alkalinity- as this will help you to easily adjust the others afterward.
Step 9: Wipe it down
Wipe down the inside of the fiberglass pool walls with a soft brush or attachment. Do not worry if this makes the water cloudy, it will all settle down to the bottom after some time. Once you are through cleaning off the walls, attach the vacuum and suck the debris from the bottom.
